Talk therapy can only do so much. Let’s take a deeper dive and unpack those traumatic memories and experiences that are holding you back from living the life you deserve!

You’re in the right place!

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing?

  • EMDR is a structured, memory-based therapy that focuses on the storage of memory and how it impacts present day health and resilience.

Distressing memories and experiences sometimes get stored in our nervous system that keeps a person from moving on. When the distressing memory is triggered, an individual might demonstrate symptoms such as anxiety, hypervigilance, nightmares, etc.

EMDR allows these old memories to get unstuck and process, which allows an individual to resolve these old experiences.

  • First we’ll talk through your goals for EMDR. We’ll discuss your history of therapy and adverse life events, your current support systems and see what your coping skills look like.

Next, we’ll engage in processing the emotions, thoughts, and memories you’re seeking relief from.

Finally, we’ll work towards integrating your new emotions, thoughts, and memories.

  • EMDR therapy is extensively researched and widely recognized as effective trauma therapy. EMDR therapy is recognized as evidenced-based treatment for PTSD and other trauma and stressor disorders. EMDR has been shown to be helpful with grief, addiction, chronic pain, depression, and anxiety.

  • Some people prefer to do EMDR from the safety and comfort of their home. Online EMDR works just as well as in-person EMDR. I use a HIPAA-compliant system that helps with setting up a stimulus where you can track an object left and right across your screen if you choose to do Eye Movements as your form of Bilateral Stimulation.

FAQs about EMDR

  • If your emotions feel overwhelming or if you tend to shut down when you feel certain emotions you may not be ready for EMDR treatment.

EMDR therapy relies on your body and mind’s ability to effectively process through your thoughts and feelings. If this is really overwhelming or difficult for you, it simply means you may require some additional preparation work before you’ll experience the full benefits of EMDR.

  • We’ll start with a free 15 minute consultation so that we can meet and see how we connect.

The therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client makes all the difference in therapy, so if I am not the best fit for you, I will be happy to provide you with referrals.

If we decide we are a good fit, and you want to move forward, we will schedule an initial 60 minute session and go from there.

  • Everyone’s healing journey is unique.

Many people find EMDR therapy to be helpful because it can accelerate your healing. EMDR is not necessarily a quick fix, but it can help you process things more effectively.

The length of therapy can always depend on your unique situation.

If you’ve been participating in therapy for a while, you may feel the effects of EMDR therapy faster. If you’re in therapy for the first time it may take a little longer to prepare for the work.
